B Group design class 19-9-11

The first garment on the page today is Theresa's mother's dress, it has a dart coming from the side seams to just under the bust and another one going from the bust down to level with the hip. There are splits to the waist on both sides and there is a press dud & hook and eye fastening on the right hand side. It has raglan sleeves and comes down too mid calf.
(scroll to the bottom of this entry to see what else happened today)

R
This is Salotte's skirt. It has a slightly gathered waist, a yoke & knife pleats. Refer to the drawing in red on the whiteboard to help you get the pleats right.

We read the 1950-59 handout and we also had one on Renee Gruau, a fashion artist who made his name in the 1950's. We then did a fashion drawing of a 1950's style garment on A3 paper.

D group design class 16-91-11

Today we did a trade drawing of Aurelia's skirt. It is black, made of a lycra jersey so very tight fitting and it has horizontal tucks across the front. It comes to mid thigh and she wears it so it comes just above the waist. A very simple design. Use a set square to make sure the lines are straight and annotate correctly

The other thing we did in class was look at the development of Arabella Ramsay work. By now you should have 3 designs worked out and traced onto your fashion templates, you should also have your trade drawings started on your trade templates.... Please always remember to use templates when you do trade and fashion sketches.
We also started drawing up a trade drawing of your personal skirt. Below is a list of styles you can use. Remember to keep it within your capability level. Stretch yourself but not too much.

I hope this helps you keep up, please communicate with me regarding your absences if you are away and make sure you hand in your work so I can mark it. Cheers, Serena
PS- Make sure you complete your 5 sketches from fashion week and make a note on each of them about the elements and principles of design (see Stecker) also bring your watercolours next week and your water colour paper. Thank you.

D group-Story Boards, here are some good examples

B group fashion sketch, Page layout

D group trade sketch- 2/9/11

The first skirt today is from Anna, It has an invisible zip fastening on the left had side and a side seam pocket on the right hand side. It has a "paper bag" top with a tie belt. There are 4 tucks in the waistline and it comes to the mid- thigh. Trade drawing please (front only)

This is the back view of Anca's skirt. As you can see there us an interesting treatment of the band with buttons & tab at the top. It is knee length and there is quite a lot of top stitching in it.
